DAY 1 – ARRIVAL AT ENTEBBE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO SEMULIKI NATIONAL PARK
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be received by one of our company representative brief you about your dream tour, take you to Aero Link Charter and transfer you to the nearby Semuliki air field for 1hr flight from Entebbe Airport where you’ll be picked by your driver guide and transfer to Kibale forest, have lunch and later you will proceed with a visit to the Bigodi Wetlands for a swamp walk, which is a home for 8 species of primates and many birds close to Kibale Forest . The project main goal is to protect the Magombe Swamp, a haven for 200 bird species. The Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary features 8 primate species, numerous other interesting mammals, many reptiles, and uncounted varieties of trees, shrubs and vines.
DAY 2 – CHIMPANZEE TREK IN KIBALE FOREST
After breakfast, you will set out for chimpanzee tracking within the Kibale Forest. During your search, expect to see a lot of primate species like chimpanzees, monkeys and other animals like the forest elephants, buffaloes, leopards, bush pig, duiker, lions, warthogs, reptiles and amphibians as well as a colorful variety of butterflies. Return to the Lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park.
DAY 3: QUEEN ELIZABETH GAME DRIVE
After an early breakfast, have your packed lunch and embark on a game viewing in Kasenyi plains which will reward you with sightings of the various animals like huge herds of Uganda cobs, elephants, lions, hippos, and warthog. Packed lunch in route, and continue with the afternoon game view. Return to the lodge and enjoy the beautiful sunset at your balcony. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 4: QUEEN ELIZABETH GAME DRIVE
After a healthy breakfast, your ballooning adventure begins early in the morning when you leave your lodge to get to the meeting point at the Kasenyi gate of Queen Elizabeth NP for 5:30am. This early drive in the dark is a chance to see nocturnal animals that live in and around the park. On arrival to the Kasenyi gate, you will follow the ground crew to the site that has been chosen for lift off. The specific location changes daily based on current wind and weather conditions.
When you arrive at the take off point, you will meet your pilot and be given a safety briefing and instructions for boarding the balloon as well as landing procedures. As the ground crew unpacks the balloon, passengers can sip on a steaming cup of coffee or tea and watch the cold inflation of the balloon. This is done using two large petrol powered fans that fill the balloon with cold air.
Once the balloon is mostly inflated but still lying on its side, the ground, the crew will invite you inside the balloon. It is overwhelming how large it is. The 16 passenger balloon has a capacity of 300,000 cubic feet. Inside, you will learn about the ropes that are used by the pilot to control the balloon during flight. When the balloon is mostly inflated with cold air, the pilot enters the basket while it is still lying its side and begins to further inflate the balloon with hot air. With the addition of the hot air, the balloon slowly begins to rise in the air and uprights itself. When the balloon is completely vertical, it is time for passengers to climb into the basket and prepare for lift off.
For approximately an hour, you will float over the savannah of Queen Elizabeth NP. The pilot will fly at varying altitudes during your flight to give you different perspectives, taking advantage of the wind currents at the varying altitudes. No two flights are the same ensuring that your experience is truly unique. The flight gives passengers great photo opportunities that are different from an ordinary safari on the ground. As you gently drift over the park, you can watch the sun rise as savannah below come to life with birds and animals.
After landing, in keeping with an old ballooning tradition, the pilot and passengers celebrate the flight with a glass of sparkling wine. After the toast, passengers sit down to a delectable bush breakfast prepared by Mweya Safari Lodge. The bush breakfast makes for a memorable ending to your. After this wonderful experience you will have champagne and breakfast and later return to the lodge for refreshing and lunch, the rest of the day you may have a game drive or maybe decide to rest and enjoy the lodge facilities.
DAY 5– GAME DRIVE AND LAUNCH CRUISE
After a delicious breakfast, you will go for a game drive at Kasenyi area. In this area you will see various animals including Lions, hyenas, Buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, leopard and Elephants, as well as the elusive forest hog. Head back to the lodge where you will have lunch and later an exciting boat launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel to see several animals like hippos, crocodiles and some buffaloes along the water edge drinking water, and various bird species. This cruise is a great opportunity to take photos and perhaps see the highest number of hippos in one place in Africa. The number of birds is impressive and the bird species include: the pink backed pelicans, saddle billed storks and malachite kingfishers besides many more.
DAY 6: GAME DRIVE & TRANSFER TO BWINDI
After breakfast, have a packed lunch and then your driver guide will take you through Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Ishasha sector in the South as you transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park. You will set out for the game drive in Ishasha area and expect to see the rare tree climbing lions. The lions can be seen up on the fig trees however it’s not a guarantee that the lions will be seen. Sometimes it depends on the luck and time of reaching the area in search for the tree climbing lions.
In Ishasha there are 4 prides of lions that climb the trees. Unique in the world! The other attraction of Ishasha is the Topis, not found anywhere else in this National Park You will have lunch in the Ishasha sector.
Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable national park which is a unique jungle, with many monkey species and it is one of the 3 places in the world where you can find Mountain Gorillas.
DAY 7: RARE MOUNTAIN GORILLA TREK
Early in the morning after breakfast and a briefing from the UWA officials, set off for the gorilla tracking. This is a once life time experience and unforgettable adventure. The ranger guides will lead you into the thick forest and start your search for the endangered Mountain Gorillas. You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures that will entertain you with performances for about1hour. The activity can take 6-7 hours since the gorillas move up and down. This is an awe some and exciting moment. En route there are a lot of chimpanzees and other types of the primates such as the monkeys, birds and so more.
DAY 8: BWINDI AND TRANSFER TO MUSANZE
Early breakfast and proceed for Batwa experience. Return to the hotel for lunch, refresh and check out from the lodge and drive to Rwanda via eastern part of Bwindi where you will get a chance to see animals, like mountain elephants, primates, duikers, birds…….etc, Transfer to the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.
DAY 9: GOLDEN MONKEY AND TRANSFER TO KIGALI
After early breakfast, you will proceed to the park headquarters for briefing about your Trek and later embark on the adventure to golden monkeys; A fully habituated group of the beautiful primates’ lives in the park and this is one of the only places in Africa where you can find such close and friendly Golden Monkeys. Return to your lodge for lunch and refreshment, then later in the afternoon check out and drive to Kigali, arrival to Kigali proceed to Your Hotel, Check in, refresh, dinner and Overnight Stay
DAY 10–KIGALI CITY TOUR/ GISOZI MEMORIAL SITE - DEPARTURE
Early morning after breakfast, you will check out from your hotel, you will have a city tour, including Gisozi genocide memorial, have lunch In town and later proceed with a visit to Nyamirambo women center for craft shops, buying souvenirs. Early evening you will go for dinner and later your driver guide will transfer you to kanombe international airport for your flight back home.
Just like human families, no two Mountain Gorilla families are alike. There are 10 rare Mountain Gorilla families on the Rwandan side of Volcanoes National Park and this tour offers up endless conversations at your lodge comparing the unique and amazing encounters over two separate treks.
